How to Let Go of the Past? Burn the Bridges holding you back.

It is understandable that it can take different people varying amounts of time until they are able to let things go.

If you want to move into your destiny and future, you have to let go of the past. Burning Bridges that are holding you back is necessary. It is human nature to hold unto some things from our past. We have great memories we hold dear from our past but, there are also some things not worth holding unto. It might be your peers, habit, relationships, mindset, and many other things.

For those who have mastered serenity, fifteen seconds ago is ancient history. They realize that once something is over, it is over regardless of whether it has been over for many years or for a relatively short time. It is understandable that it can take different people varying amounts of time until they are able to let things go. But the goal should be to let go of what is over and done with. In truth it is gone whether or not you let it. It is just a question of the degree of emotional mastery that you will have. Regardless of where you are at this moment, you can always improve on your ability to let things go as soon as they are gone.

“…God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, because it was near, for God said, ‘Perhaps the people will reconsider when they see a war, and they will return to Egypt’.” Exodus 13:17

Why did God make it well-near impossible for His People to return to Egypt? After all, the reason He took them out in the first place was because they screamed and cried for Him to take them out, so if in the future they might decide to go back, why not let them?

Each of us is trapped in our own little “Egypt”. The Egypt of materialism, The Egypt of indulgence, The Egypt of doubt, The Egypt of depression, The Egypt of selfishness, The Egypt of Unforgiveness, The Egypt of Immorality, The Egypt of unfruitful relationships, Unfaithfulness and whatever hard place you are in right now.

It takes a lot of hard work to get us out of those Egypts. And if we manage to make it out, there will always be a ‘good old friend’ who will give us a call or send us a text, and say ‘Hi, why don’t we hang out together tonight!‘, The only way to make sure that ‘good old friend’ can’t drag us back to Egypt is to burn our bridges so there’s no way back.

God knew that the true desire of the His People was — and still is — to be close to Him, but He led them through the sea because He wanted to burn their bridges to make it easier for them to leave Egypt once and for all.

Don’t look back! Let go.
